What is hope?

The world defines Hope as an optimistic state of mind that centers around the desire for a positive outcome or the expectation that things will improve in the future. It often involves a combination of belief, faith, and emotional resilience, inspiring individuals to persevere and work toward goals even in the fact of uncertainty or adversity.

In todays world there is a lot of uncertainty and adversity. We see it constantly with war, natural disasters, and the scheming of organizations and people. The purpose of this page is to help others find what Hope is and to work on believing and spreading the belief of hope to others. No matter how bad things get, or how the world changes, we need to maintain hope.

I would define hope as a confident expectation of eternal life through the atonement of Jesus Christ. Eternal life is living with God in a state of “never-ending happiness.”

23 Therefore, cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves—to choose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life.

24 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, reconcile yourselves to the will of God, and not to the will of the devil and the flesh; and remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved.

25 Wherefore, may God raise you from death by the power of the resurrection, and also from everlasting death by the power of the atonement, that ye may be received into the eternal kingdom of God, that ye may praise him through grace divine. Amen.1

In the scriptures hope is frequently associated with faith, which suggests that faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation upon which hope is built. “For no man can be saved, according to the words of Christ, save they shall have faith in his name.”2 It is through that faith and in believing in the Christ’s sacrifice and resurrection that individuals develop the hope of being raised to eternal life.3

But like faith, hope demands active participation, and is not something that just happens, it is a process and something that needs to be worked at and nurtured. Hope, like faith, can be compared to a seed that needs to be planted in the correct soil, tended to, and nurtured to become active and fulfilling. You need to “wake and arouse your faculties,” and work on hope and faith.4 You need to nourish, looking forward to eternal life and the hope that faith brings.5

I have found that my faith and hope have stagnated and wavered. The purpose of “Present Day Hope” is for me to share my journey and findings as I study the words found in the Holy Scriptures and those of modern day prophets.

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and find myself needing additional help and guidance. I am also a computer nerd/geek so I am going to use available technology to help me with this endeavor. I am not going to go to the internet for answers, or to other sources, but I will use AI to help me find answers in the words of Christ in the Holy Scriptures and from his Ordained Leaders.
